TANF Payment Schedule in Connecticut (2026): TFA Deposit Dates, EBT & Delays
When Does Connecticut Pay TANF Benefits?
Connecticut pays its TANF cash assistance through a program called Temporary Family Assistance, or TFA. If your family receives TFA, knowing the deposit date can help you plan rent, utility payments, groceries and other monthly expenses.
Beginning March 1, 2026, the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) issues cash assistance benefits on the first calendar day of each month. This includes Temporary Family Assistance. However, SNAP food benefits follow a different schedule based on the last two digits of the recipient’s Client ID.
What day does Connecticut issue TANF payments?
The Connecticut TANF payment schedule now has a single monthly cash issuance date. Starting in March 2026, DSS issues cash benefits on the first day of the month.
This rule replaces the older payment arrangement that spread cash benefits across the first three days according to the cardholder’s last name. Therefore, older online charts using A–F, G–N and O–Z are no longer the current cash schedule.
Does the last name affect TFA payments?
No. Under the 2026 cash schedule, the first letter of your last name no longer determines your monthly cash issuance date.
Likewise, the last two digits of your Client ID do not change the TANF cash date. The Client ID ranges apply to SNAP deposits, not to the monthly cash issuance rule.
Connecticut TANF payment calendar for 2026
The following calendar applies the current Connecticut DSS cash issuance rule to the 2026 calendar year. In addition, the table identifies the weekday to make bill planning easier.
DSS introduced the first-of-month cash schedule on March 1, 2026. Therefore, January and February appear separately because those months followed the previous issuance system.
| Month | 2026 payment date | Day | Schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | January 1–3 | Thursday–Saturday | Previous last-name schedule |
| February | February 1–3 | Sunday–Tuesday | Previous last-name schedule |
| March | March 1 | Sunday | New cash schedule |
| April | April 1 | Wednesday | New cash schedule |
| May | May 1 | Friday | New cash schedule |
| June | June 1 | Monday | New cash schedule |
| July | July 1 | Wednesday | New cash schedule |
| August | August 1 | Saturday | New cash schedule |
| September | September 1 | Tuesday | New cash schedule |
| October | October 1 | Thursday | New cash schedule |
| November | November 1 | Sunday | New cash schedule |
| December | December 1 | Tuesday | New cash schedule |
What about January and February 2026?
Before March 2026, Connecticut issued cash and SNAP benefits over the first three days of the month. The date depended on the first letter of the EBT cardholder’s last name.
Under that earlier arrangement, A–F received benefits on the 1st, G–N on the 2nd and O–Z on the 3rd. However, the state replaced this arrangement for cash benefits beginning in March.
Connecticut TANF vs SNAP payment dates
TANF and SNAP use the same EBT infrastructure in many Connecticut households. However, they are different benefit programs with different issuance rules.
Temporary Family Assistance provides cash assistance. By contrast, SNAP provides food benefits that recipients use for eligible food purchases.
Which schedule applies to your benefit?
2026 Connecticut SNAP schedule
Since March 2026, DSS has used the Client ID ranges below for SNAP. This table is included to prevent confusion when a household receives both cash and food benefits.
| Last two Client ID digits | SNAP deposit day |
|---|---|
| 00–12 | 1st |
| 13–24 | 2nd |
| 25–37 | 3rd |
| 38–49 | 4th |
| 50–62 | 5th |
| 63–74 | 6th |
| 75–87 | 7th |
| 88–99 | 8th |
How Connecticut delivers TFA cash benefits
DSS offers electronic options for receiving cash assistance. Most recipients access their funds through the Connecticut EBT card or direct deposit to a bank account.
Both options provide access to the approved cash grant. However, the steps for checking funds and handling payment problems can differ.
Connecticut EBT card
The EBT card lets you access available cash at participating locations. For example, you may be able to use qualifying ATMs or get cash back at certain stores.
Additionally, the card can carry SNAP benefits if your household receives food assistance. Your SNAP and cash balances remain separate.
Direct deposit
Instead of using EBT for cash, eligible recipients may arrange direct deposit. DSS sends the payment to the bank account listed in the approved enrollment request.
Although DSS follows its issuance schedule, your bank controls how the incoming deposit appears in your account. Therefore, check with the bank if DSS confirms payment but the funds are not visible.
How to check your Connecticut TANF balance
Checking your actual balance is more reliable than guessing when a payment became available. Fortunately, Connecticut provides several ways to review EBT information.
Check your balance online
MyDSS allows users to view EBT information, including available balances. After signing in, choose the EBT balance and card-access option linked to your case.
Check by telephone
Connecticut EBT Customer Service is available at 1-888-328-2666. The automated service can help you check balances and resolve card-related questions.
Review your transaction history
If your balance seems incorrect, review recent purchases and withdrawals. For example, an ATM withdrawal or store transaction may explain why the available cash differs from the amount you expected.
Confirm the benefit type
First, check whether you are viewing cash assistance or SNAP. The two balances are not interchangeable.
Review the available amount
Next, compare the available cash balance with the payment information in your most recent DSS notice.
Check recent transactions
Then, look for withdrawals, purchases or other activity that might explain the balance.
Contact DSS if needed
Finally, ask DSS to review the case if the expected cash benefit does not appear or the amount seems wrong.

How to receive Connecticut TANF by direct deposit
Connecticut allows eligible cash assistance recipients to enroll in direct deposit. This option sends the cash payment to an approved bank account instead of adding it to the EBT cash account.
Direct deposit enrollment steps
According to DSS, recipients complete the direct deposit enrollment form and provide proof of the bank account. The bank account must be in the recipient’s name.
Choose an eligible bank account
Make sure the account belongs to you. In addition, confirm that it can receive electronic deposits.
Complete the DSS enrollment form
Use form W-682 in English or W-682S in Spanish. Follow the current instructions on the form.
Provide account verification
Attach a voided check or bank statement as DSS instructs. The account information must be readable.
Submit the required paperwork
Mail the completed materials to the DSS Scanning Center address listed on the current enrollment instructions.
Continue checking your EBT card
The change does not necessarily begin immediately. Therefore, keep checking your EBT cash balance until direct deposit becomes active.
How long does enrollment take?
DSS says direct deposit enrollment can generally take up to two months to become effective. During that period, cash benefits continue through the EBT card.
Consequently, a payment that still appears on EBT shortly after submitting the form does not automatically mean your direct deposit request failed.
What if your Connecticut TANF payment is missing?
A missing cash deposit can make it difficult to cover monthly bills. However, the next step depends on whether the problem involves the payment itself, the EBT card or the bank account.
Check whether the scheduled day has arrived
For March 2026 onward, regular cash issuance is scheduled for the 1st. Before reporting a missing payment, check the current date and your latest DSS benefit notice.
Verify your cash balance
Next, use MyDSS or EBT Customer Service to check the cash balance. Do not rely only on the SNAP balance because the programs issue benefits separately.
Check for eligibility or case changes
A benefit may change because of an eligibility review, household change, sanction, case closure or another DSS decision. Therefore, read recent letters and online notices before assuming that the payment system failed.
Contact the correct office
For cash eligibility and benefit questions, contact the DSS Benefits Center at 1-855-626-6632. Meanwhile, EBT Customer Service at 1-888-328-2666 handles card access and balance-related issues.
Questions to ask about a missing payment
- Is my TFA case currently active?
- Was the monthly cash payment authorized?
- Did DSS send the payment to EBT or direct deposit?
- Is any document, interview or review missing?
- Did my household’s approved benefit amount change?
- Has DSS issued a notice explaining the change?
- What should I do if the payment was not issued?
What if DSS says the payment was sent?
If DSS confirms an EBT issuance, check the cash transaction history and card status. For direct deposit, contact your financial institution and ask whether an incoming payment is pending or was rejected.
Afterward, report any unresolved problem to the appropriate DSS unit. Keep a record of the date, the information provided and any follow-up instructions.
Does Connecticut TANF pay on weekends or holidays?
The official Connecticut cash issuance rule sets the first calendar day of the month. As a result, some scheduled dates fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
For example, March 1 and November 1 both fall on Sundays in 2026. August 1 falls on a Saturday.
Does the state move every weekend payment?
The published DSS guidance identifies the 1st as the cash issuance day. However, it does not establish a separate universal weekend or holiday adjustment for every payment method.
Therefore, avoid assuming that all weekend cash payments move to Friday or Monday. Instead, check the available balance and follow up with DSS if the expected funds do not appear.
What if you receive direct deposit?
Bank processing may affect the time your deposit becomes available. Consequently, the official DSS issuance date and the moment funds appear in a bank account are not always identical.
When will your first Connecticut TFA payment arrive?
The monthly payment schedule applies to ongoing cash assistance. However, someone applying for TFA for the first time should not assume that their first payment will arrive automatically on the next 1st.
DSS must first determine eligibility and approve assistance. After approval, the agency’s decision and payment instructions establish what happens next.
What affects the first payment?
What if your EBT card has not arrived?
Contact DSS to check the card status and delivery instructions. If you already have a Connecticut EBT card, approved benefits may be added to the existing card.
Additionally, keep your mailing address current. An incorrect address may cause delays in receiving a new or replacement card.
Who qualifies for TANF cash assistance in Connecticut?
Connecticut’s TANF cash program is called Temporary Family Assistance. DSS provides TFA to eligible families with dependent children and certain pregnant applicants.
To qualify, applicants must meet program rules involving residence, income, assets and household composition. Furthermore, some adults must participate in employment services unless an exemption applies.
Income and asset requirements
Current DSS guidance says new TFA applicants must have earnings below 55% of the federal poverty level. The agency also applies other rules when it determines countable income.
Connecticut lists a general TFA household asset limit of $6,000, subject to exclusions. However, not every asset counts toward that limit.
Work and participation requirements
Employable adults may need to participate in Jobs First Employment Services. The program can include job searches, skills training, education and other employment activities.
Meanwhile, exemptions may apply in certain circumstances. DSS determines whether an adult must participate or qualifies for an exemption.
How long can families receive TFA?
Connecticut’s current TFA guidance describes a 36-month limit for families with an employable adult. Certain families may receive extensions or exemptions, while households without an employable adult follow different time-limit rules.

Why might your Connecticut TANF amount change?
The payment date and payment amount are two different things. Even when DSS issues benefits on the same day each month, your approved grant can change after an eligibility review.
Income and employment changes
For example, a change in wages or other countable income may affect the amount of assistance. Connecticut also has earned-income rules that can help certain recipients keep benefits while working.
Household composition
If an eligible child joins or leaves the household, DSS may need to recalculate the assistance unit. Therefore, report relevant changes according to the instructions supplied by the agency.
Case reviews and program requirements
Some changes occur because of reviews, missing verification or program compliance requirements. As a result, an amount that differs from last month does not always indicate an EBT error.
How to check a different payment amount
- Read your latest TFA eligibility or benefit notice.
- Compare the approved amount with the cash balance.
- Review recent EBT transactions.
- Check whether DSS requested additional information.
- Contact the Benefits Center if the calculation is unclear.
How to protect your Connecticut TFA payment
An EBT card gives you access to important household funds. Unfortunately, stolen card information can put those benefits at risk.
Connecticut DSS offers account tools to help protect cards from unauthorized transactions. In addition, recipients can take simple steps to reduce the risk of card theft.
Use MyDSS card security features
MyDSS allows users to lock and unlock an EBT card. It also provides a feature for blocking or allowing out-of-state transactions.
For example, you can lock your card when you are not using it. Then, unlock it when you need to complete an authorized transaction.
Keep your PIN private
Never share your PIN or full card number with an unexpected caller or text sender. DSS says its staff and EBT Customer Service will not call or text to request your PIN or card number.
Additionally, DSS recommends changing your PIN regularly, especially before benefits are added to the card.
What if your card is lost or stolen?
Contact EBT Customer Service at 1-888-328-2666 immediately. You can also contact the DSS Benefits Center about a replacement card.
A replacement card does not automatically restore money that someone already stole. Therefore, report suspicious activity promptly and protect any remaining benefits.
